I received negative feedback and many complaints about the textbook system we have in school for students. They think books are way too expensive (ex. it costs 267 dollars to buy a physics book and 122 dollars to buy a calculus book). In addition, most of the time, students use the textbooks for only one semester and then throw the textbooks away. These valuable resources don’t get recycled well. I believe these are very serious problems for students and our environment. I wanted to reduce students’ financial burden and help tons of books get recycled. Therefore, I established a used book website with my friends that enabled students to trade used textbooks with their fellow classmates. It was pretty popular among the students and faculty at the time. Many students traded their books with peers on the website and it saved them hundreds of dollars every semester. My team realized that not only can we significantly reduce students’ financial burden, but we can also save our environment by avoiding cutting down trees and consuming water in paper production.
